Self-Care is Girls’ Night

Some of us are uplifted and rejuvenated by having a night out with the ladies. Some of us are more stubborn and prefer to listen to new music at home. Regardless, there is no reason why you can't have your cake and eat it too! You can have a night out with your friends but not go broke either -- after all, we are college students! Here are some tips on how to do just that.

- Start with dinner and drinks at a fancy restaurant. You will get the chance to increase discussion about things that interest you while still staying within budget limits.

- Throughout the night, alternate between drinks and appetizers. Bring your own menu or order off the restaurant's menu. Ask the server to split it among all of you.

- Once your food and drinks have been served, order dessert. This is an easy way to keep the food within budget limits while still allowing yourself to relax and enjoy each other's company. If you insist on treating yourselves to dessert, consider sharing a piece of birthday cake or a warm brownie with ice cream among yourselves.

- To keep costs down even more, go back home with one or two of your closest friends before heading back home for the night. Maybe we make some microwave popcorn and put on a movie! Look at it like going out on a platonic date; you will feel closer to one another and have more fun if you see each other more often. This way, you can spend less money by combining two events into one but still have the added benefit of seeing your friends in a casual setting.

- If possible, hang out with your friends during the day, too. Get together for lunch or coffee after work on weekends and evenings. This will not only help you become financially better off but it will also allow you to dedicate more time invested in your community of friends.

Remember that lifestyle is more than just money; it is also about the people around you and what they mean to you. Having fun with your friends is a way for you to connect with them. Such connections have been proven to help improve overall health since they often encourage the formation of strong relationships that can be very important in our lives.
